What is Reflectance?

Amount of Infrared Ray Reflected by Objects

Reflectance is the proportion of infrared energy reflected from an object.
Objects with high reflectance reflect the infrared energy of other heat sources, which may cause the thermometer to be affected by surrounding heat sources.

  • Shiny Metal

If an object has low reflectance, it is less affected by surrounding heat sources, allowing for stable temperature measurement.

When measuring shiny metals, using a thermometer specifically designed for shiny metals allows measurements that are resistant to the effects of reflection from heat sources.
