01 Newly developed image sensor "ATMOS" enabled the very stable measurement.

Measuring dimensions of black rubber or glossy metal is not easy application because the measurement result won't be always stable.

High linearity laser displacement sensor CDX series employs newly developed image sensor "ATMOS" to get stable measurement result for those applications. Followings are introduction of Optex-FA's new technology that made measurement of any workpieces stable.

The reason why measurement result is not stable

One of the most important factors for displacement sensor to measure accurately is getting adequate light amount on image sensor device. When the light amount is too big or too small, the position of peak which is calculated with the light amount curve will be not accurate.
Conventional displacement sensors use feedback control to adjust light amount though, it would take time, a period to sample some data, and measurement result would not so stable.

Automatic electric shutter of ATMOS

We developed "ATMOS" image sensor newly to solve these problems. "ATMOS" stands for "Auto Tuning cMOS" which doesn't need feedback process thanks to having control circuit on the image sensor chip.
Just 1 time sampling is needed to get adequate light amount because the electric shutter is controlled to get adequate light amount real time on the chip. In this way, light amount the image sensor gets won't saturate and can get adequate light amount for any types of workpiece and adequate light curve to get correct center position of the peak stably.

How is it different? «experiment»

Following shows measurement result of distance from the displacement sensor to the target object, shiny metal surface and mat black rubber, while the displacement sensor is moved from metal target to black rubber target.
Conventional image sensor has to adjust light amount when the target is changed and it can't measure correctly until adjustment is finished though, CDX series with "ATMOS" doesn't have to need adjusting period even right after the target is changed.

CDX series won't choose workpiece to measure and provides stable measurement result thanks to combination of "Automatic electric shutter & High sensitivity". Sensitivity of the image sensor is 4 times better than our conventional one.
